Borrowing

HOW TO JOIN THE LIBRARY
If you are 16 years or older it is easy. Just pop into the library and we can issue you with a library card. You will need to bring some form of identification with you with your name and address on (e.g. passport, driving licence). If you are under 16 an adult known to you will need to sign on your behalf. You will be able to borrow a book straight away.

BORROWING BOOKS
Books can be borrowed for 3 weeks at no cost. Up to a maximum of 24 items may be borrowed at a time. Audio books (also known as talking books) can also be borrowed at a small cost. It is helpful to have your library card with you but don’t worry if you forget.

EXTENDING THE RETURN DATE (RENEWING YOUR BOOK)
Books can be renewed up to 5 times either online or at any county library (as long as they have not been requested by someone else). It is helpful to have your library card and books with you.

BORROWING A BOOK WHICH IS NOT AT KIRBY MUXLOE LIBRARY
Books can be requested from other Leicestershire and Rutland libraries so even if we do not have the book you would like you can make a reservation. A charge of £1 is made per adult book but children’s books can be reserved free. The cost is payable when the book is collected.

RETURNING A BOOK
An item borrowed from Kirby Muxloe Library can be returned to any Leicestershire or Rutland library. If the library is closed items can still be returned using the Returns Letter Box.

If the items are returned late then a small fine is due:

  • Adults (and children’s books taken out with adult card)
25p per day staffed (Maximum charge per book £7)

  • 12 – 17 years old 5p per day staffed (Maximum charge per book £1.50)

  • 0 – 11 years old First seven days free and 1p per day thereafter. (Maximum charge £1)

LOST CARD
If you have lost your card, don’t worry. Simply pop in and the volunteer staff will be pleased to help supply a replacement card.
