Volunteering
Would you like to volunteer?
As a voluntary organisation we are always looking for additional help. Most volunteers give their time as library assistants, but there are many other volunteer roles too. We need people to help with the maintenance of the building, gardening, publicity, fund raising, ICT, children’s and adults’ activities, baking and much more, so if you would like to be involved in enriching your local community through the library, then we would love to hear from you!
Do you feel the need to keep Kirby tidy?
Then why not become a volunteer litter picker? When you feel the urge, you can use the litter picking equipment housed in the library. Just ask at the counter.

What is the role of a library volunteer?
As a library volunteer, your role is to help to provide a public library service. We aim to create a welcoming and safe environment for library users and volunteers alike. With that in mind, you will always have at least one other person on duty with you at any given time. You will also be supported by the Leicestershire County Council Library Call Centre to assist with any queries you may have.
What are the duties of a voluntary library assistant?

Issuing and returning books using the LCC IT system

What makes a good volunteer?
An ideal volunteer is someone who is:
- positive
- enthusiastic

- willing to learn
- able to make a regular commitment
- patient and tolerant towards others
- able to work as part of a team
If you think you may fit the bill, why not get in touch?
Induction and training are provided for all volunteers. Telephone support is available when the library is open via the LCC Library Call Centre and there is a handbook in the library for guidance. We have a dedicated volunteers’ co-ordinator who is contactable through the library.
What do you get in return for your time?
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and become involved in your local community. It gives you the opportunity to use and enhance your skills whilst helping others. You will also become a valued member of that group of wonderful people who help to ensure the continued success of Kirby Muxloe Library and Community Hub.
